Daniel Tollar 2/22/12 Predicting Piece

Authors Note: The author’s purpose is to show a prediction piece creating an alternate ending/added chapter using quotes from the story “The City of Ember by Jeanne DePrau.”

            Have you ever wondered what happens at the end of a story? Do you ever wonder what happens next? In the book city of ember, in the last chapter Lina and Doon walk away from ember and throw a note in ember and then they leave. Then it’s the end of the book. I want to expand on that and make it a lot more interesting. The book “The city of Ember” would be a lot better if it didn’t have a “to be continued” type ending. Although the City of Ember does have a ending to it, it would be much better if it went on and didn’t have a “to be continued” ending.

            Although, let me put something out there I think everyone who has read the city of ember would want another ending like what they do next. Well I am going to predict what is going to happen next by creating a next chapter in the city of ember. Everyone who read the city of ember is probably wondering what happens to the city of ember? Is it going to get fixed what is going to happen? I have a very logical prediction for that.

            On the other hand, my prediction is that when Lina and Doon leave Ember to see the real world that they will realize there is actually real light not coming from these lamps coming from the sun. After they see how great the earth is and how terrible ember is, then they will want to change Ember to make it just as good as earth and that Lina will change because in the beginning of the story she didn’t want to help ember but after the story I predict she will want to help Ember and make it a better city.

In conclusion, the city of ember will become a lot like earth in many ways and they will have sunshine and all of that good stuff that Earth has. . The city of ember would be a lot better if it didn’t have a “to be continued” type ending. Now it doesn’t have that sort of “to be continued” ending to it. It now has a sophisticated, fun, and better ending to it. Although the City of Ember does have an ending to it, it would be much better if it went on and didn’t have a “to be continued” ending.
