DIfferent Prospective

Different Prospective
Authors Note: Were you wondering what "Jump Ship to Freedom" would be in a different point of view? Well then your in luck.

This is a Point of View essay about “Jump Ship to Freedom”. This story is in the point of view of a 14 year old slave named Daniel.  His dad died in the Revolutionary War by drowning in the river. His dad gave his family these soldier notes to buy their freedom. Daniel and his mom are black slaves who are owned by the Ivers (Captain Ivers and his wife). They are only going to get free if somebody pays Daniel and his mom to get their freedom. In my opinion it would be better if it was told in Daniel’s point of view other; than his mom or Captain Ivers.

The book “Jump Ship to Freedom” is in the point of view of a 14 year old slave who is trying to be free; the story is in “Daniel’s” point of view (the main character). If it were to be in Captain Ivers point of view then it would sound like Daniel is the bad guy for stealing the soldier notes when really Captain Ivers was the one who stole the soldier notes so Daniel and his mom could buy their freedom with his father’s soldier notes but Captain Ivers stole them so Daniel and his mom could not be free.

To be honest I think that if this book ”Jump Ship to Freedom” would be in Captain Ivers point of view then Daniel would be the bad guy because Captain Ivers would make it seem that he took the soldier notes to have a slave to work for him like so innocent. But sense this book is in “Daniel’s” point of view it makes it seem like Daniel is the good guy just wanting to be free and then Captain Ivers is the bad guy who stole Daniel’s father soldier notes to have a slave forever long he wanted because he knew that Daniel was never going to get enough money to buy himself plus his mom free unless he got a hold of his father’s soldier notes, so that’s why Captain Ivers stole them in the first place.

To wrap things up when you switch the point of view of a book, it completely changes because the good guy instantly becomes the bad guy and the bad guy instantly becomes the good guy. That’s why the point of view is important because if The Outsiders was in a Socs point of view then it would seem like the Greasers were the bad guys because it was told by a Socs. Another example is in Mickey & me, if it was told by Bobby Fuller then it would be told that Joe Stoeshack is a bad guy when he really is a good guy.
