Holes

What would you do if you were hit in the head with a pair of nice sneakers? Well I defiantly wouldn’t keep them but in the story Holes by Louis Sachar. I liked this book because I once did something I regretted and Stanley did too and Stanley also regretted it too. Stanley (the main character) gets hit in the head with a pair of nice sneakers and doesn’t know what to do with them. So he decided to make a run for his house because he doesn’t have a lot of money to buy shoes and he has a pair that is maybe 20 dollars so he decided that if he ran for it and made it to his house then he wouldn’t get in trouble. Well at least he thought that but he got even more in trouble. The shoes Stanley picked up were stolen from the store that day and then he heard police cars and then he was caught. Stanley should have never picked up those shoes.

Speaking of Stanley stealing those shoes he got caught and had to go to court. When the Judge said that he was guilty Stanley denied and said that I only picked them up and I was going to report them immediately. Then the Judge said why were you running toward your home? Well Stanley knew he was going to face the consequences and the Judge said it was either 6 months at Camp Green Lake or 6 months in prison. Well Stanley has never been to camp before so he was very interested in going to camp. He has never done anything fun like going to camp and Stanley said he was off to Camp Green Lake in a quarter of a second. So Stanley is going to go off to Camp Green Lake tomorrow. So Stanley was really excited about that and he wanted to go to camp and he thought it might be fun but when he got there it looked the opposite of fun.

When Stanley got off the bus he knew he made a terrible decision stealing those shoes and he shouldn’t have ran away and he should have just left them there and he wouldn’t have gone through this. He heard and saw that they had to dig holes all day for 12 hours and that it is 100 degrees most of the time. Stanley didn’t fit in at all, and he was sacred all the time. Again he thought he should never pick up those shoes in the first place then this would have been all avoided. When he got into his bed/cadge he was thinking about prison would it be better or would it be worse. Well Stanley made at least one friend when he was there and everybody knew that Stanley was a new kid and everyone was picking on him because he was new. They also knew he was weak compared to them. But they knew one thing that and that is that Stanley loved to dig holes.

It was a very rough time to Stanley and his hole digging but he managed to get through it anyway and when he got home his mom and dad asked how it was and he said it was like any other hole digging that he has ever done. I can relate to Stanley because I once did something I regretted but it is definitely not as bad as Stanley did though. I thought this book was very interesting and gave us lots of information if you get hit on the head with something don’t just run away with it leave it there or return it.
